Radio Today: BBC London 94.9 to rebrand as BBC Radio London

Story from Radio Today:

Forty-five years after it launched as BBC Radio London, the station is going back to its roots.

BBC London 94.9 will change its name to BBC Radio London on October 6th, to co-inside with its original launch date of October 6th 1970.

Richard Branson-founded Virgin Media will launched in Ireland this Thursday, with cable broadband and TV provider UPC Ireland moving to the Virgin Media brand.

UPC said all operations, products and services will move to the brand, adding it would serve “as a platform for further growth and enhanced delivery of great customer experiences”.

Guardian Media: Vodafone and Liberty Global end asset-swap talks

Vodafone and Liberty Global, the US owner of Virgin Media, have ended talks about a possible exchange of assets, the UK mobile phone operator said.

The companies, long rumoured as potential merger candidates, announced in June that they were in discussions about swapping some operations.

UPC on MB Blog - Irish Times: Quad-play Virgin Media prepares for ribbon-cutting

Richard Branson will be jetting or quite possibly ballooning (for old time’s sake) into Dublin next Thursday for the 10am launch party in the RDS for Virgin Media, the new name for UPC Ireland.

There has been a degree of inevitability about the rebranding of UPC Ireland to Virgin Media ever since UPC owner Liberty Global bought Virgin Media two years ago for a cool $24 billion.

MB Views: Has Media Boy HQ work out Lifetime HD channel number?

We think Lifetime HD will launch on Virgin Channel 294 but,

We also think Virgin Media may move Lifetime to Virgin Channel 208 with Lifetime HD launching on Virgin Channel 209.

That will keep Virgin Channel 274 free for CI to move down one at an later date so that CI HD can launch.

Radio Times has confirmed that Sky Movies Greats will be back from Monday on Virgin Channel 404 - Also in HD on Virgin Channel 434.

Sky Movies Greats is called Sky Movies 90s' right now.

Moyles will present the breakfast show on Radio X - the new name for Xfm.

We was thinking tonight about Lifetime HD launching in October so we ask our sources if it sister channels that broadcast right now on UPC Ireland will also appear when Lifetime HD launch.

We got the following back:

As of 8pm tonight our Virgin Sources are not aware of HISTORY HD or CI HD launching on Virgin Media anytime soon.

AMC may not launch on Virgin for "Quite long time"

Media Boy Sources has told us today that both AMC and AMC HD may not launch on Virgin Media in quite long time, no time frame was mentioned.
